Hi, pretty new here. I just had the most amazing day. Not because of any one particular thing, more of a feeling in the house today. We had been snowed in for over a week, which is very unusual for this part of Oregon.
We all had to post pone getting together for Christmas until today, as no one could get out of there drives. At first it was a bit disappointing to me, small and silent, but it was there. That was on Christmas Eve. Then came Christmas, uneventfully, but nice and warm. Then came the big day. The day that made it all worth while. The day that Daddy could make it out the driveway and take the kids out to spend there Christmas Cash. Ah, just writing that makes me take a nice deep breath. I don't care for shopping, and was very very blessed to have him take them. I was in heaven.
When he arrived home, the sound was familiar, but peppered with shouts of joy! Mom, look at this and this and this and that. The boys were each so excited that they had scored on exactly what they had wanted for Christmas. Cha Ching, I said in my mind, there is some happy boys. And just as fast, off they ran to play what they had plundered. But where was my girl, and why was she jumping for joy? In she came, somber and disappointed, "oh no" what happened. She proceeded to tell me of how high the prices were where they had gone, and this was THIS MUCH- she said with much emphasis. I felt bad for her, but also at the same time was cheering inside. My baby has my frugal sense! Hallelujah . So i looked at her sad little face, looked over at her Daddy- who was surprisingly still energised, guess that happens after you have been locked up for a week and just drank a whole pot of coffee. Daddy said how bout it Hun, wanna make a trip to Wal Mart for the girl. You know what, i actually wanted to go, a bit surprising to me.
So off we went. Roads were iffy in spots,so I was sure glad he drove. We arrived and quickly got the necessaries out of the way. Then off to the daughters target spots, she was on fire! Alive and full of hope. I love shopping with this girl! We found everything she wanted, tried everything on, got some replacements for certain things, then hit the register. We found a fairly short line, she went up , with her own money. I showed her where to watch to make sure that the items weer being rang up the right prices. She looked on with great intent, MOM!, what honey, It said $3 and not $8, they are "ON SALE", you could almost hear the quire of angels in the back ground singing. I looked at her now glazed over eyes, well I said to her, looks like you have some more money to spend! She jumped, and I mean literally jumped, for joy. This not only ment that she got to get her things that she needed, but it also ment that she could get something that she Wanted. So we went back through the store, again, not something I had planed on, or wanted to do for that matter. She quickly found what she wanted, made a swift purchase, jumped again, and was thrilled to see that she still had money left of for a Mountain trip coming up soon.
Ahh, life is GOOD
Ah the joys of gift card shopping with kids :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so cool when the kids grow up enough to realize good deals/bad deals, bargains & extravagances, when to spend and when to wait. I love to have them experience decision making and the good/bad consequences of living with their final answer, whatever they couldn't live without. How empowering for them to work with $$ while they are young. I enjoyed your blog, Merri!
